Styling mistakes you might be making – and how to save your locks from breakage.
You style, crunch and blow it everyday to make it look great, but all that handling could be sending your hair down the drain – literally. Protect your tresses from hair breakage by avoiding these styling faux pas.
Styling Mistake #1:
Overhandling
Excessive brushing, teasing or vigorous shampooing will eventually cause the cuticle (the outer layer of the hair shaft that protects and strengthens your hair) to separate and break off. The result? Hair breakage and split-ends.
Solution: Treat your hair with TLC. When shampooing, use the tips of your fingers to gently cleanse your scalp. The lather will dislodge dirt, oil and debris easily so there's no need to scrub hard. After you condition but before you rinse, detangle your hair in the shower with a wide-tooth comb. After rinsing, squeeze hair gently with a towel – don't rub. Then when hair is dry, brush just enough to style it.
