Professional Brow Shaping Methods
1. Waxing
Eyebrow waxing is a popular salon treatment that removes unwanted hair by applying wax then tugging it off the skin. The hairs come off together with the wax.
Process: During waxing, hot or cold wax is spread over the stray hairs above and below the brow line and pulled off in one quick motion in the opposite direction of hair growth. Professional salons and spas typically use quality wax that contains an anti-inflammatory ingredient such as azulene, so the risk of post-waxing skin irritation is reduced. After waxing, any straggly hairs left over are plucked out using tweezers and your aesthetician may finish with a bit more tweezing to give your brows a cleaner line.
Ouch Factor: The pain is akin to tugging a Band-Aid off a hairy part of your skin. Because a thin layer of the dead surface skin cells is peeled off along with the hair, the skin may remain red and irritated temporarily afterward, especially for individuals with sensitive skin. To soothe the redness or swelling, apply a gentle moisturizer over the entire area.
Lasts: Two to eight weeks (about as long as a tweezing).
Other Considerations: Waxing is quick and efficient, especially for women who have thick, bushy brows or who have never tweezed. Compared to tweezing, brow waxing is faster, but tends to be less precise.
