Sunny bronzers and
pastel shadows are usually the stuff of choice for summer makeup, but this season a somewhat unexpected trend rules the runways: Heavy smoky eyes. Sexy, smoldering peepers -- spotted at Emanuel Ungaro, Rodarte and Emilio Pucci -- that were accented with bold metallic shades of navy, bronze and gold looked particularly hot.
Certainly hot enough for a summer date night. But how do you melt-proof the look amid the sweltering heat? Check out these tips to rock the perfect warm-weather smoky eye.

4 steps to prevent makeup melt-down:
1. Prime your lids
A primer is the go-to product for getting your makeup to last. Pat an oil-free primer to the eyelid before applying makeup -- the silicone will act as a base and keeps your lids from getting oily.
2. Prep with translucent powder
Set the primer by dusting a thin layer of translucent powder over the entire lid to create a matte base.
3. Use the right formulas
Use powder eyeshadows instead of cream-based shadows as they melt and crease quicker. For eyeliner and mascara, go for a water-proof or smear-resistant formula that won't budge in heat and humidity.
4. Cut out greasy products
Avoid applying creamy concealers and heavy foundations around the eye area, especially if you have oily skin.
