actually, i've heard that it's adviseable to use sunscreen at home as well.
afterall, the uva uvb will still come through the windows and all that. This would be especially so if you're prone to pigmentation

As the really high spf sunscreens may be water resistant (the good ones are the spf 50 ones by brands like La Roche Posay, Avene, Bioderma, they have high PPD), it's actually adviseable to use makeup remover to remove them

improper cleansing can lead to skin clogs (if you're prone to them)

Hi noangel, thanks for your advise! I still think it's best to put on sunscreen for my case. Okay, will have them remover before going to bed, though there will be additional step to do.

do remember to put on enough (meaning not just a thin layer) to get the full protection from your sunscreen.
there's some awkward formula that calculates based on spf, your skin and etc.
generally, make sure u have on 1tbsp or something.

good luck with your pigmentation!

take fda's testing of spf, its based on 2 mg per cm square of exposed skin.
google around, i am sure u can find info for the other types of test/ratings eg. boots star, ppd (incidentally these are apparently superior to mere spf rating as uvA protection is taken into consideration as well).

Ever since more freckles and pigmentations shown on my high cheek bones and bridge of my nose, I have been spreading more sunscreen onto my face, but I think only less than a teaspoonful. Don't you leave cakey if so thick? I think once I'm much expose to sun, the pigmentation will get darker at certain spots, Thus, I hardly go for swimming for this reason. sad, right? Thanks a lot, olaf. I will google and make sure good coverage to my face.

Olaf, I love swimming when there's sun. It seems sun block doesn't help at all. If I get tanned/burnt, freckles will also be darkened. (Errr..., I had swam at different hours, as early as 7.30 am and late night up to 9.00 pm. but I like between 8.00 am - 2 pm. hee... that why I took 2 years not to swim to clear away the "sun-kissed markings" on my back. By right, we should let the sunblock lotion to absorb to the skin before going to the pool, right? How long should we wait? Any idea? Besides at night, when is the ideal time to swim, around what time? I still prefer day...

marche,
skip skimpy swimwear and go for more covered versions (eg. long sleeve rashguard as top and not string bikini).
if u dun wanna change ur habit, i guess safer will be before 10am.
yup u should apply suncreen/block 15-30mins before exposure. and continue to reapply often.
