No offence to dog lovers....
my neighbour's dog has got one big problem... kept barking...whenever anyone steps out of the lift door, he / she will get a shock..
yeah, u may say we should be prepared since he barks everytime but still after 6-7 months, i still get mild "heart attacks"...
just last wkend, when we were opening our door, this dog rushed out of his gate and charged at us...
my poor 2 yr old boy is traumatised... cos the dog rushed up to him from behind and licked him without any warning (no barking this time when we stepped out of the lift door) and then started barking..
then the neighbour's maid rushed out and carried him back...
can anything be done ?? i dun really wanna argue with my neighbours but is there any legislation on this ?? If they dun keep their dog indoors ??
I have a passion for dogs too but this is horrifying...

hmm.. i guess even if i try to talk nicely, we may end up arguing... thats wat im trying to avoid...
i mean if they got auto gear, in the 1st place, the dog wont have a chance to rush out & "attack"...

The owner need to train the dog. Did he/she put any gate barrier to prevent the dog from charging out?
Yes, offering some dog tibits will help.
Probably, the dog is not properly socialised. Dogs bark because they are protecting their own territory.
Cheers

well for dogs barking is a form of communication. to it depends wat kind of barking. of course if they bark non stop than its the responsibility of the owner to discipline him. i am an dog owner myself, and i own 2 dogs. btw wat breed is that? maybe you can approach the neighbour one day when you are in a pleasent mood and tell them nicely of the problem, i think they will understand.

yeah there's no way to solve this prob except by talking to yr neighbor i guess. regarding training and all, unless u r gonna pay for the training, explaining to yr neighbor as to WHY the dog is barking blah blah blah, u think they care two hoots about it? if they really care, they would hv been more considerate about it. juz talk to them nicely, and i mean really nicely. no showing of glum face or angry tone coz afterall they stay so close to u, u nv know if they're the revengeful sort or if they might do anything to u later. if after talking to them nicely, they won't budge, the only way is to call the police.

another thing is, i don't see the reason why we shd offer someone else' dog tidbits when its trying to attack us in the 1st place. unless the dog is being really good so we can give tidbits. but trying to shut him up with tidbits definitely doesnt do the trick or solve the prob. u might even be aggravating the dog's behavior coz whenever he does something wrong and u offer it tidbits, indirectly in the dog's point of view u r actually encouraging his behavior.
