hi,
my birthday is arriving soon. My bf is getting me a diamond ring. I would like to know which jewellery shop is best for diamond rings? There are a few jewellery shop: Lee Hwa, Soo Kee, SK Jewellery and Taka Jewellery.
I did a survery and i realised that Taka Jewellery's diamond ring is the cheapest! Imagine a 0.50 carat diamond ring they are selling for $599. Heard from friends that Taka sell lower grade diamonds. Is it true? Can some of you give some comments? and where to get good quality diamond ring? Thanks alot.

diamonds like gold somehow have market rate. if the diamonds are too cheap, look at the specs like clarity, colour, cut. dun just look at the price.
Lee Wah's destinee (spelling ?) range are the 'perfect' cut. of cos with 'perfect' price too.
i was thinking of 'upsizing' my tennis braclet dat i got 3-4 years back. the destinee range cost 3 times more ($18,800)... over my budget. but got one plus point for this range. buy anything from this range, within 2 years, you can change it to something else at the same value (no depreciation).

as for the clarity and cut we cant tell through naked eyes right? unless we view it under the microscope is it? as for the colour, if the diamond is more to yellowish can tell right? but a 0.50 carat diamond ring for $599 is really very very cheap... haha

ask the SA for the specs. shop around and make comparison.
they can let u see the clarity and cut using their equipment.
IMO, man made diamonds look better than lower grade diamonds. diamonds are for life.... do consider it as an investment
i got a .52 heart shape (stone only) at near to $6K. making dat into a ring cost a small sum ... (for the white gold and design + workmanship).

Can try Sookee Brilliant Rose. Absolutely one of my fav. This range also the same as Destinee from Lee Wah. You can trade in within 2 years at same value (no depreciation).
Think Goldheart also not bad and IMHO, rings are better than those from LW. Heard the diamond on the ring from LW will drop so don't dare to buy from them, except a tennis braclet (not destinee).

all e 4Cs constitute 2 e outlook of e diamond (& price), u cant say clarity or others is not impt, bcos -
- diamonds tat is clear (vvs1 etc) have nearly no spots when u look into it. those tat r SI range can c black dots inside....
- diamonds that r not 'white' tends to have a yellow hue to it, makin it not as pure. colors starts from D (icy white) to Z (light yellow). of cos, some diamonds have florescent in it, therefore ll look a bit blue. although tis is considered a defect, it is startin to gain popularity...
- how brilliant e lights r reflected ll depends on the cut of e diamonds, generally, e more 'face' it have, e better it is in reflectin/deflectin lights
- last but not least is e carat loh, self explanatory...
& end of e day, its juz a piece of expensive carbon, same family as charcoal!!

Tell your bf to make sure the ring has 6 claws instead of the usual 4 claws. That should be alright.
Also buy from reputable shops. You can also try Aspial.

that is definately very cheap, any idea if it comes with GIA/AGS/EGL cert? sometimes, the reason it is cheaper could be due to the certification/apprisal is in-house (usually when the stone is already mounted, since GIA only grade loose stones) or commercial-grade diamonds (which means it could be any diamonds from G colour and VS-SI onwards).
by the way, having a GIA certificate is NOT the same as an appraisal by a GIA gemologist. GIA certificate is done by a GIA employee whereas a GIA gemologist simply passed the GIA course.
however, at the end of the day, i think it all depends on your budget and how you feel towards diamonds/jewellery or 'brand'. some people no matter what, must have a ring that comes in a blue box with blue ribbons, some can't be bother much, others care a lot about the quality. As for me, i am so influenced by the patek philippe ad "you never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation”. maybe, i think too much, but i'll always imagine that i'll pass on my jewellery to my daughter or dil on their wedding day...dream too much de 'huo kou'
oh yah, oct, destinee just have a 'interesting' range of diamonds, but it's not GIA certify, it's in-house certify by lee hwa gemologist. and the price difference is big, a trilogy ring (all est .3ct, can't remember). it cost only 4k++. so they might have the tennis bracelet too.
