me and my boy are thinking of getting married in dec 2008 earliest or mid 2009...
we are trying to work out the total cost so we can set aside sufficient savings for it...w/o having to use his/our parents $$..
ladies, can i have an idea how much you blow on your wedding...??
these are the folowing aspects that i'm looking at:
1. wedding package (photo n gowns)
2. basic renovation of room and buying of furnitures for the room
3. buffet style dinner (i dun like the traditional type of tables style..am open to open air/pool-side buffet.)
4. basic jewellery (wedding bands, or watever else that is needed?? )
5. ping li..(downry?? from the guys)
6. ang pow for jie meis, younger relatives..
can any of you share your experience??
i'm thinking of keeping it simple and low cost..cuz i'd prefer to blow it on honeymoon or even paying for flat down payment then on the wedding affair and all..
p.s: my BF was over the moon when he heard the above..
haha...

I can't remember exactly how much my wedding cost... the dinner sort of finance itself, only top-up few k++.
1. wedding package (photo n gowns)
i've frens who never bothered to take wedding photos, they only took actual day photos. for my case, i went JB for my photo shoot, cost less than RM3k. as for my gown, i bought it, now it's hanging somewhere as it's too bulky to be in the wardrobe. if you are very particular about the designs, gown rental are not cheap or you might have to end up customising one. there are also some other extras like veil, gloves etc. remember to check if it's all included.
for man, i find that most of the bridal shops do not have nice suits/tux and some of themm have not even heard of cravats. in the end, we went somewhere else for the tux and suit. paid about 500++ for rental.
2. basic renovation of room and buying of furnitures for the room
the most cost-saving way i can think of, is to request for cash or furniture instead of jewellery during the tea ceremony.
3. buffet style dinner (i dun like the traditional type of tables style..am open to open air/pool-side buffet.)
if you want to save money, opt for lunch instead. buffet dinner is not neccessary cheaper than chinese sit-down dinner.
4. basic jewellery (wedding bands, or watever else that is needed?? )
hmm, i love diamonds. so i did not save on this. hehehe. for my case, i had an engagement ring, and wedding band for both party.
5. ping li..(downry?? from the guys)
my parents never ask, so i conveniently forgotten about it. then again, there are many things my parents and my FIL forgotten about, so we also conveniently forgotten about it.
6. ang pow for jie meis, younger relatives..
it would depends on individual for tea ceremoney. jie meis would typically receive 4 ang baos. from the both set of parents, the bride and the groom. up to you to decide amt, think min $20.
you also need to factor in make-up, car rental, flowers and shoes for actual day. if both families are the traditional type, you also need guo ta li, suckling pig etc. in my case, i did away with them, so not sure how much it cost.
pre-wedding preparation like facial, spa etc are also neccessary.
can't remember if left out anything else.
