I think the way to accumulate our points is too slow! There should be more activities to help us gain points!

I am a newbie, and is of course not very familiar with how things work here. I was running through the forum topics for interesting/catchy ones, or those that would be interesting to me, or topics which I can share what I know and what i think. I was really surprised that some of the threads were started several years ago, and replying to those threads now would be useless. Can I suggest that these super old threads be deleted? For example, I saw this post asking for suggestions for wedding photo shoot locations. As a newlywed (uhm, more one year ago actually), I immediately replied to the post, thinking that I can help . . . only to learn later that it was posted way back in 2005!
Of course, now I know that I should first look at the date when the topic was started/posted, so that I do not need to post on super old threads. But I guess if we do not delete these old posts, more newbies (just like me before I knew where I could check the date of posting), would commit the same mistake as I did.

oh no kent, please do not go the blanket deletion of old threads route. esp not in spree section hehe...cos from time to time, i do refer to sls sprees done eons ago for data which can help me in current sprees.
i do know in some forums which have been around for some time, threads of X years old are locked and stored up in a section called archive or history. such threads then become read only, no new posts can be added.
anyway, sibo, dun worry, re the wedding location thread, we can see dat u post in it cos its relatively high up in the section ie. last post before you is recent.
plus imo wedding location topic has relevance to wide audience and is sorta "timeless".
its not like you purposely scrolled back many pages of a section to dig up years old threads simply to post in effort to gain a perk point. yes such action is frowned upon, esp if the new post contributes nothing "useful" to the forum community.
there are indeed some threads which can become obsolete or only relevant to original poster and thus serves no purpose to be dug up.
eg. the thread is about a 2005 sale in X store, last post in 2005...i find it duh if someone goes dig up this thread in say 2011 just to post "gd to know, thanks" or "shucks i missed the sale".
eg. member asked in 2008 whether she should buy a particular dress, i imagine its of no help to this member if another member digs up thread to answer "i think you should buy" few years later, surely the dress would have gone out of stock already haha. however, if new post is along the lines of "i know this is old thread but anyone knows where can i still buy dresses of such design currently?", its fine.

hey kent,
i can't agree more with what olaf said..
having the old posts and threads helps in a way as a reference as well as case studies..for us to refer to..
like if there's all ready a existing thread with solutions, (despite the age) there's no need to recreate a new thread with the same answers and solutions, all we need is to post a link to that very thread...
than case closed..this helps especially when i send a offending newbie a warning PM for reference on what not to do..so that they learn the rules of the forum.
as for the newbie's point of view..perhaps you guys would like to read up only the active topics else start your own threads and posts..if there's existing threads with solutions posted..we'll do the linking up..
