Love keeps temptation away
Feeling love for your romantic partner appears to make everybody else less attractive, and this emotion enables you to push thoughts of that tempting other out of your mind.In an experiment by researchers at UCLA and relationship service eHarmony, 120 undergraduates in committed relationships were shown photos of attractive members of the opposite sex. The researchers found that when coeds were instructed to reflect on the love they felt for their boyfriends or girlfriends, it blunted the appeal of the attractive others. "It's almost like love puts blinders on people," says co-author Martie Haselton, an associate professor of psychology and communication studies at UCLA.
Watch your words during a fight
Couple spats may be inevitable, but how spouses fight can reveal how healthy their relationship is, according to a recent research at the University of Pennsylvania. Couples who say "I" during a fight are more satisfied in their relationship than couples who say "you".When confronting issues together, the choice of your words are crucial: The study also showed that saying "we" helps couples come up with the best solutions and ease conflict, while saying "you" tends to breed tension between the spouses.
