8. Avoid hormone therapy
Long-term use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), particularly estrogens and progesterone combined, has been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. Fortunately, this risk appears to return to normal if a woman has not used hormone therapy for five years or more. If you're taking hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms, ask your doctor about other options. Or consider using it only for the shortest time period necessary.
