How can you tell if your baby's feeding well?
PAGE: 3 of 4

Development Clues

One main sign your baby's feeding well is that he's growing well. Get him checked regularly by your baby's health care provider.

Your baby is happy and developing well

  • If your baby is generally happy and active, you can be quite sure he's getting enough to satisfy him and help him grow. If you're still concerned, schedule regular postnatal checkups and have your baby's weight, length and head circumference weighed and measured. "In the long run, weight gain is the best indication whether the baby is getting enough, " says Newman. The average weekly weight gain for a baby under six months of age is at least four to eight ounces per week.
