1. Not removing makeup properly
Being lax with your makeup removal regime can cause breakouts called "acne cosmetica". When left on your skin, makeup can combine with sebum (your skin's natural oil) to clog your pores and lead to pimples. The main problem isn't the product itself, but how you remove your makeup: Many women become slack in their cleansing routine when it starts to feel like a chore.
Spot-busting tip: Choosing makeup that's labeled "non-comedogenic" (won't clog pores) is an important step. But you should also make sure you take the time to cleanse your face thoroughly, says Thomas-Minns. Gently and completely remove all traces of makeup before you go to bed and don't be tempted to skip a night when you're tired.
