Primary or Secondary Hyperhidrosis?
The term primary hyperhidrosis is used when no cause (for uncontrolled sweating) can be identified.
Secondary hyperhidrosis has a recognized underlying cause, such as overactive thyroid or obesity.
Although high temperatures or emotional stress can increase perspiration, they don't cause hyperhidrosis. Instead, hyperhidrosis may be an inherited trait that stops the body from properly regulating its temperature. Many hyperhidrosis sufferers also have uncontrolled sweating problems at more than one area of their body.
