Lupus

Its cause is uncertain, and there is currently no cure. Learn more about this auto-immune disorder.
Causes of Lupus
The cause of lupus is still unknown, but it is believed that environment, genetics and hormonal factors are involved.

Flares and Common Triggers
Although the triggers differ from person to person, there are some more common ones that can cause lupus flare-ups:
  • Overexposure to the sun
  • Infection (such as a cold)
  • Use of prescribed drugs
  • Stress
Treatments for Lupus
There is also currently no cure for lupus. While effective treatment can help minimize symptoms and reduce inflammation, the prescription drugs may have harsh side effects.

Preventing Flares
It is always wiser to prevent than to treat. Some preventive measures include getting plenty of rest and avoiding common triggers. For photosensitive individuals, avoid excessive sun exposure and regularly apply sunscreens to prevent rashes.
