Diagnosis of fibroids

If you experience a change in your menstrual flow, pattern or change in your bowel or urinary habits, see your doctor for check-up.

Your doctor can confirm the diagnosis of fibroids after performing a pelvic examination and an ultrasound scan. The ultrasound scan will determine the number, location and size of fibroids present.

Treatments

In most cases, fibroids are small and do not require treatment. If symptoms are present, your doctor will likely suggest treatment, depending on several factors such as the size and location of your fibroids, your age and whether you plan to become pregnant in the future.

There are several treatment options including medications (e.g. hormonal therapy) and surgery (e.g. laparoscopic surgery, hysteroscopy, hysterectomy).
