Although it is generally safe and the risks are low, experts often recommend that pregnant women postpone getting unnecessary X-rays until after giving birth. The level of safety depends on the type of X-ray you need and exactly how much radiation you're going to be exposed to. If the x-ray doesn't involve the abdomen, there is the possibility of using lead aprons to protect the fetus.
