Anorexia nervosa is an extremely dangerous, life-threatening eating disorder in which one intentionally deprives oneself of food and can literally starve to death in an attempt to attain a twisted and extreme standard of thinness.
Classic Symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa:
- Extreme weight loss (at least 15% below the ideal weight).
- Resistance to maintaining body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height.
- Intense fear of weight gain or being “fat” even though underweight.
- Undue influence of weight or body shape on self-image, or denial of the seriousness of low body weight.
- Loss of menstrual periods in women post-puberty.
